Please include your iPhone model, the iOS version, the Dashwise version (Settings > Help > About), your adapter (brand and model) and your car (make, model, year). If something went wrong while connecting, the log under Settings > Debug > Export log helps a lot. Check it before you send it: it contains the adapter's replies, never your location or your car's VIN.
Which OBD2 adapters work with iPhone
- Works: ELM327-compatible adapters with Bluetooth LE (for example Konnwei KW905, Vgate vLinker MC+, OBDLink CX) or Wi-Fi (join the adapter's Wi-Fi network first; usually 192.168.0.10, port 35000).
- Does not work: Bluetooth Classic adapters without Apple's "Made for iPhone" chip (most "v1.5" and "v2.1" clones, OBDLink LX, Vgate iCar2). This is a limit of iOS, not of Dashwise.
- Not yet: the OBDLink MX+ does have the "Made for iPhone" chip, but Dashwise does not support it yet.
Try it without a car
Choose "Simulator" under Settings > Adapter and tap Connect. The simulator drives a virtual engine, so the Dash, Sensors, Diag, Trips and Track pages all work with simulated data.
Common questions
The adapter does not show up when I scan.
Allow Bluetooth for Dashwise (Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth). Switch the adapter on; a KW905 needs its button pressed so the light is on. Turn the ignition on.
It connects, but there are no values.
Turn the ignition on (engine running for most values). Some cars answer slowly on the K-line; the first values can take up to a minute.
Can Dashwise clear my check-engine light?
Yes, under Diag, but only with the engine off and the ignition on, and after two confirmations. Clearing also resets the readiness monitors, which an inspection may check. Fix the cause first.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
You need no account. Dashwise talks to your adapter without the internet. Your iPhone only goes online for two things, both through Apple: map images while a trip's map is on screen, and looking up the start and end address of a trip. See the privacy policy.
Can I try it without a car?
Yes. Choose "Simulator" under Settings > Adapter and tap Connect.
Report a vulnerability
Found a security problem in Dashwise or on this website? E-mail info@getdashwise.nl with the subject "Security". Describe what you found and how to reproduce it, and please give us time to fix it before you make it public. You get a response within 5 working days. Fixes for the app ship as updates through the App Store. See also security.txt.
Safety
Dashwise shows what your car reports. It is not a safety system and does not replace your car's own gauges and warning lights or a professional diagnosis. Keep your eyes on the road; let a passenger operate the app while driving. Lap timing is meant for circuits, not public roads.
