Dashwise privacy policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
Dashwise is made by Stijn van de Pol, the Netherlands. This policy explains what happens with data in the Dashwise app for iPhone, on this website and when you e-mail us. This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics.
The rules for using the app are in the Terms of Use.

The short version
Dashwise does not collect, store or share any personal data on a server. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Everything Dashwise records stays on your iPhone.
What stays on your iPhone
- Engine data read from your OBD-II adapter (for example engine speed, speed, temperatures, fault codes).
- Trips you record: engine data over time and, if you allow location, the route, lap times and the start and end address.
- Your settings, such as your adapter, units, warning limits and tracks.
- Your car's VIN, if the car reports it, to look up which manufacturer codes apply. It is stored only on your iPhone and is never written to logs.
Trip files are stored in the Dashwise folder of the Files app and are excluded from iCloud and iPhone backups. Deleting the app deletes all of this.
Permissions
- Bluetooth: to connect to your OBD-II adapter. While a trip records, and briefly after you leave the app, the connection stays active in the background.
- Location (While Using the App): only if you allow it, for the speed, the route of a trip and lap times. Dashwise asks only when you choose a location feature, and keeps recording a trip you started when you switch apps (iOS shows the location indicator then).
- Local network (Wi-Fi adapters): to talk to the adapter on its own Wi-Fi network.
Addresses
The trip logbook shows a start and an end address for each trip. To find them, your iPhone sends only the start point and the end point of the trip to Apple, in the same way as the Maps app, and Apple returns the address. This is the only place where location data leaves your iPhone. The route, the time of the trip, your engine data and any name are not sent; Apple handles the lookup under its own privacy policy. The address is stored on your iPhone only, next to the trip, and you can edit it. Without an internet connection or without a location fix, Dashwise tries again later or shows coordinates, or leaves the address empty.
Maps
The trip detail can show the route on a map from Apple Maps (MapKit); the map tiles come from Apple, under Apple's privacy policy. While that screen is open, your iPhone downloads map images for the area shown, the same way any app with an Apple map does. The route itself, your trips and your engine data are never sent. You can hide the map; Dashwise then draws the route by itself, without loading any map.
Sharing
Dashwise never sends data anywhere by itself. You can export a trip (CSV, GPX, VBO), a mileage log (CSV, with the start and end addresses) or the debug log through the iOS share sheet; before you share, Dashwise shows what the file contains. What happens after you share is up to you and the app or person you share with.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics and no external requests: every file comes from this site.
- The server logs record the time, the page requested, the status and the number of bytes. They contain no IP addresses and no browser details. Logs are kept for at most 14 days.
When you e-mail us
- Purpose: answering your question.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering questions about Dashwise (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), or taking steps at your request before or in connection with the use of the app.
- What we keep: your e-mail address, your message and our reply.
- Retention: until your question is resolved, then at most 12 months.
- Processor: Proton AG in Switzerland, which hosts the mailbox that info@getdashwise.nl forwards to. Switzerland has an EU adequacy decision, so the same level of protection applies.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability for the data we hold about you (in practice: your e-mails). To use a right, e-mail info@getdashwise.nl. Data that stays on your iPhone is under your own control and can be deleted by deleting the app. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens: autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
Automated decisions and transfers
Dashwise makes no automated decisions or profiling. Apart from the mailbox at Proton AG in Switzerland (an EU adequacy country), Dashwise itself transfers no personal data outside the European Union. The address and map features of the app use Apple, as described above.
Security
Found a vulnerability? Report it to info@getdashwise.nl with the subject "Security". See security.txt and the support page.
Children
Dashwise is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.
